EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
September 4, 2002

Meeting was called to order by Dean Duggar at 2:05 p.m.
RESEARCH RELEASE TIME
Dean Duggar reminded the Department Chairs that the Research
Release Time Requests are due into Academic Affairs by
September 23rd and this also includes the ones for competitive
review. The deadline to get them into the Dean’s
office is September 16th so they can be reviewed prior
to sending them on for competitive review.
FACULTY/STAFF PICNIC
Chris reminded the committee that the Faculty/Staff
Picnic is fast approaching and that she needs the Department
Chairs to encourage their faculty to attend and to RSVP
to her how many in each family will be attending so
the appropriate amount of food can be purchased. Also,
Chris reminded the Department Chairs of the items that
their department is to bring to the picnic.
FACULTY/STAFF MEETING ON CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Dean Duggar informed the committee that the Faculty/Staff
Open Meeting regarding the Capital Campaign has been
scheduled for September 27th in the COB Conference Room
with two sessions scheduled – one from 9-10 a.m.
and one from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Anyone interested in obtaining
more information on the Capital Campaign or anyone who
is interested in helping with the Capital Campaign is
encouraged to stop by to talk with Dean Duggar.
COMMITTEE LIST FY2002-2003
Chris distributed a revised Committee List, however;
Joe Bork was not removed from the Outreach Committee.
Chris will revise and distribute a new list.
Dean Duggar commented that he will begin to meet with
committee chairs to put together objectives.
COB ACTIVITIES LIST 2002-2003
Chris distributed a revised COB Activities list to the
committee; however, Joe Bork was not removed from the
Outreach Committee. Chris will revise again and distributed.
OTHER
Dean Duggar asked Carleen to update the committee on
the COB TaMolly’s Night. It will be held on September
9 from 4-9 p.m. and 10% of all sales will be donated
to the COB Capital Campaign. Also, the first 10 students
will receive a t-shirt. Carleen also commented that
if we like, we can put brochures out on a table they’ll
have there or anything else that we would like to put
on the table.
Dean Duggar informed the committee that a Retiree Luncheon
has been scheduled for September 10, 2002 at Piero’s
Main Street Bistro from 12-2 p.m. to present the Capital
Campaign to them and ask for their support. We have
5 living retired faculty members that have scholarships
in their name and he would like to ask others to do
the same.
Dean Duggar reminded the committee of the BAC Meeting
scheduled for September 12, 2002 in the Choctaw Room
of the Carl R. Reng Center from 12-2:00 p.m. and he
commented that he needs ideas from the committee members
of items for the meeting:
John Seydel - MIS and E-Commerce; Len Frey –
Leadership and Outdoor Activities; Don Lester –
Family Business; Mark Young – Netmobile, Economic
Outlook Conference; Jim Washam – MS in Accounting
and CFA Program (Richard Taylor); J. Duggar - Capital
Campaign and updated COB Activities List for the members
of the BAC at the meeting.
Mark Young commented that Kathy White will be here
on September 12th & 13th – all faculty /staff
of COB will be invited to the announcement of Kathy
White’s gift which is going to be held in the
Ballroom of the Carl R. Reng Center at 11:00 a.m. on
September 13th. There will be media there, 50-60 people
from the university and the community; Region 8 will
be there, radio stations, Jonesboro Sun, Paragould newspaper.
The Horizon Institute Meeting will be held at 12:00
Noon.
RFP for faculty development grants – will be
distributed after the board approves and Kathy White
will be here during Thanksgiving to meet with faculty.
Prepared to award 5-10 depending on money.
Dean Duggar announced that the Deans’ Retreat
is scheduled for September 19-20, 2002 at the Lakeview
Center in Paragould, AR and Dr. Roe will represent the
COB.
Dean Duggar announced that the Jeffrey Birnbaum Reception
and Lecture is scheduled for September 19th (Reception
from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Carl R. Reng Center, Choctaw
Room and the Lecture at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall of
the Fowler Center - using speaker’s series funds
along with university funds for this event. Carleen
asked if Tom Moore was going to do anything on this.
Carleen reported on the Emerald Gala which is scheduled
for November 1st. The date was changed due to Convocation
of Scholars week being scheduled earlier next year,
so this year we will have had two of these but beginning
next year there will only be one. Dean Duggar would
agree to cook dinner for winning group if there is a
competition for the group who participates in promoting
the gala the most. Scholarship funds are now vested
because they have hit the $10,000 mark. Not up to $10,000
on faculty development yet.
Dean Duggar asked the committee if there were any problems
or issues that needed to be discussed.
Dr. Seydel informed the committee that Kathy White
and her team from Cardinal will be talking to five different
classes and promoting internship and employment with
Cardinal. Carleen asked that Dr. Seydel e-mail information
regarding this as she is putting the Student Newsletter
together right now and she can put this in the newsletter.
Students interested in Information Technology.
Dean has been meeting with Farhad Moeeni on data capture.
Trying to meet with Wal-Mart .
Dean Duggar commented that the AFL- Finance position
was not filled this year so he would like to know if
we are in need of filling that position. Dr. Washam
stated that if we could get an adjunct, it would be
okay but if we could get someone to fill this position,
it would be great.
Carleen commented that the theme for the next Business
Connection is Leadership/Ethics.
Proposal in ethics area – Dr. Frey; on-line trading
from Dr. Washam; automated data capture. Family Business;
graduate fellowships.
Dr. Frey asked if the Organizational Behavior position
was approved and Dean Duggar said that it had been.
Dean Duggar asked Chris to give Dr. Frey a copy of the
approval.
Mark Young reported that the Delta Center got a SW
Bell Foundation Grant – custom program for economic
developers in technology – starts in November
– Christmas.
Dr. Roe reported that he is on the 2nd round of the
leadership program.
Meeting adjourned at 2:45 p.m.
Next meeting is scheduled for September 18, 2002 at
2:00 p.m. in the College of Business Conference Room
BU105.
