Meeting was called to order by Dean Duggar at 2:05

FALL ENROLLMENT
Dean Duggar reviewed the Fall class enrollment with
the committee. Dr. Washam stated that he feels that
they are down in enrollment. A section of Business Finance
was cut and he’s had very few overrides. Dean
Duggar felt that most of the principle classes are close
to full. Dr. Roe was surprised with the enrollment in
MIS and Management Science as he expected the numbers
to be much higher. Dean Duggar will check with the other
department heads on this enrollment. Advanced Management
Finance class is low – 30 allowed with only 6
enrolled. Dean Duggar asked Dr. Roe if he was comfortable
with not putting any advising holds on any MBA student.
If they’re in the pre-MBA they still need a hold
lifted until they are formally admitted.
Registration Comparison Report:
Graduate enrollment is up around 140 and overall university
is up 199.
Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores are up, new freshman up,
old freshman down.
Dean Duggar will write a letter to Rick and Tom that
there not be a registration hold on any MBA student.
SUN NEWSPAPER ARTICLES
The Jonesboro Sun articles were mentioned in the Faculty/Staff
Meeting that there is a shortage of articles and we
may lose our spot in the Jonesboro Sun if we don’t
submit any articles. Dean Duggar commented that there
is a crisis on Liability Insurance in the State –
so if someone could write an article on this. Some nursing
homes just cannot get it, so they are looking at a lot
of early retirements due to this.
DOMAIN STATEMENTS
Dean Duggar commented that he would like to have time
to meet with Steve Replogle to go over this.
COMMITTEE LIST FY2002-2003
Added Becky Carr to Outreach and Internship –
Take off Natasha and Joe Bork (call Mark Young to get
replacement for Joe Bork). Len Frey expressed interest
in being added to Internship Committee.
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ACTIVITIES FOR FALL 2002-2003
Added TaMolly’s Night on September 9th. Changed
day of Economic Outlook to Thursday. Add Retiree Luncheon
on September 10th per Dean Duggar.
OTHER
Dr. Washam commented to Dean Duggar that his department
was going to do some recruiting of their own if that
was okay and Dean Duggar felt that it would be great.
Dean Duggar would like to e-mail the faculty when the
date is confirmed for the meeting on the Capital Campaign
four weeks from today.
Dean Duggar discussed with the committee the formal
three year review of department heads when he came on
board. Dean Duggar also commented that he doesn’t
have any major complaints or on-going criticisms of
any of his department heads. He would like to do an
open questionnaire to the faculty to find out what they
think of their department head and continue for another
three years. Would the committee like to do the same
with the Dean? (Three year review). The feeling was
that it isn’t necessary for a formal review of
the Dean. Dean Duggar asked if we should do this in
the Spring or is that too late?
PLAN FORMAL REVIEW OF DEPARTMENT HEADS IN OCTOBER.
University’s Courses & Curriculum Committee
– Dr. Frey is presently on this committee, but
Dr. Frey feels that Dan Marburger would be a better
representative on this committee since he is on the
COB Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. However, Dean
Duggar’s concern is for example: Engineering adding
an MIS in Technology and offering one of our Management
courses etc.
Meeting adjourned at 2:48 p.m.
Next meeting will be held on September 4, 2002 in the
College of Business Conference Room, BU105 at 2:00 p.m.
