IP PHONE SYSTEM – GREG WILLIAMSON
Greg Williamson commented on the IP Phone System. This
system is coming up very quickly and it’s a financial
issue because if he doesn’t get this installed
by October,
then his SW Bell bill will go from $1,000/month to $24,000/month.
Using student labor, each department will be contacted
to get this system set up. Once phones are
installed, a training coordinator will work out the
schedule of training for the new
phones. Every phone is delivered with a brochure and
very self-explanatory. Once
training is complete, the chair and/or admin. Asst.
will be contacted to set up a cutover date. Until system
is cutover, you may use either phone. Once cut over
you can unplug the old phone and deliver it to a recycle
bin.
Every main answering number, COB or department, the
technicians will work with
those people who answer that phone and help program
numbers. Web attendant can transfer
the number. Training for student workers is much easier.
Every phone has their own inward direct dial system
– can give out to anyone we want. 680 prefix.
IT does not give those numbers out as a matter of course,
but those
numbers are available.
All systems have voice mail message and caller ID.
Also can track bomb threat calls.
Long distance calls – will show up on your web
bill. Will be able to do 4-digit dialing to Newport
campus and all other campuses and they will be able
to do the same to us. Old line charges will be able
to pay for capital equipment.
Administrative Assistant. – if you’re working
on a document and a call comes in, a pop
up will show up, so just reduce the document and then
go back into the document after
the call.
Primary, Secondary, Tertiary – Triple set of
equipment in order to help when the server
is down.
Dr. Replogle asked if a virus can affect these? Greg
stated that it cannot affect these phones. These phones
sit behind a firewall and are protected.
Dean Duggar asked what we can do to assist and move
this along. Greg stated that
if you have any ADA features in your phone (hearing
assistance, paging system),
identify that up front. Chris and Keith Cockrell will
be contacting us to set these
phones up.
Same passcode works for these phones as the old phones
when dialing long-distance
calls. After phone is set up – set up voice mail
message. Can listen to voice mail
through speaker or e-mail.
ASU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS VIEWBOOK
The latest version of the COB viewbook was distributed
to the committee members –
Dean Duggar asked the committee members to please look
at this rapidly and quickly
and let him know of any changes, corrections. Carleen
commented that some
testimonials are missing so doesn’t have the final
viewbook yet.
WHY ASU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
Dean Duggar wanted to give a list to outsiders of what
we are proud of and any other items that need to be
added please let him know. Dr. Bevill commented that
she would like to add: “A caring faculty”
Dean Duggar is open to suggestions – 1st one
per Jeff Pittman – likes to brag about
ASU in the classroom – AACSB accredited –
this doesn’t mean anything to the students, but
if you go further and say that only so many schools
are AACSB accredited, then it makes more sense to them.
Dr. Pittman would like a few simple brag points.
Dean Duggar – do we need to say something about
a clear path for a five year CPA?
QUALITY & REPUTATION ENHANCEMENT PLAN
Establish a better and more systematic manner of recruiting.
Last year and earlier, Dr. Replogle had been talking
about the Student Professional Development Program –
outlines some of this in the document.
Getting viewbook together, recruiting schedule with
high schools and bringing
counselors in, faculty members becoming liaisons with
high schools. Maybe each of us could take a particular
community college and work on that college’s relationship
with the ASU COB. Keep them informed of what is going
on. Dr. Replogle asked what about ASU – Newport?
Dean Duggar feels we need to do a better job.
Waltons – 3 foundations – anything has
to be brought by the family members.???
Dean Duggar asked the committee members to look this
over. Look at L under
curricula – have 2 students left in this and they
will finish but no new admissions to this program.
Assessment – Melodie Philhours met with Dean
Duggar and will chair the Assessment Committee –
student working with her on the database but need to
move forward
with our goals and objectives and specific measures
we’re going to use.
Development and Funding – building is most important.
Economic Development – minority delta scholarship.
One item that continues to bother Dean Duggar is promotion
and advertising. Novell Center of Excellence didn’t
get in the Arkansas Business? Rural Sourcing –
governor’s mansion. Get information to Jeff Hankins
Editor – Arkansas Business Review - direct
to get it in the newspaper. Dr. Frey asked if Dean would
like to know about articles
prior to faculty sending directly to Jeff – YES.
Opportunity for writing an article –
need to get some things to him. Rural Sourcing would
be a great source to write about.
FACULTY/STAFF FALL PICNIC
Everyone decided BBQ chicken breasts and Boston Butts.
Dr. Pittman suggested volunteers for cooking. Borrow
the University’s grill for the picnic.
DRAFT – COB COMMITTEES 2004-2005
Admissions – has a mandatory role with students
– first year students to be contacted
and making sure that they are doing well.
Dr. Bevill gave Paulette information on Steps Along
the Way
Assessment – Melodie will be here at next meeting
to talk with us about our goals
and objectives with this, how we’re going to measure
and capture this data.
Executive – done
Faculty Development – Dean Duggar met with Sarath
briefly on this.
Teaching Porfolios/Teaching Evaluations – better
handle on evaluating teaching.
Faculty Grievance – select when needed.
Charles Ford – Graduate Programs – Russ
Jones, Gauri and Louella
Publicity & Outreach – Carleen – get
stuff out on Emerald Gala.
PRT – Charles – not yet put together (2
people from each dept. and supposed to have tenure)
Recruiting & Scholarships – Dr. Bevill has
had several people volunteer. Working on getting the
committee together. Closeness between Outreach and Recruiting.
Student Professional Development – Dr. Replogle
– web site – Dean Duggar is leaving
that up to him to call meetings or not. Melodie asked
Steve to serve on Assessment Committee with her. Maybe
have student professional development be a subcommittee
of assessment.
Technology – Dean Duggar asked Dr. Seydel about
the activity of this committee. Dr. Seydel – there
are a number of issues that could be addressed. Needs
to be people
from each department not just CIT. Student has to register
card in order to use own laptop on ASU web.
Undergraduate Curriculum – Kim Hester –
Tina suggested that two from each departmental committee
move to this. Dean Duggar agreed. Tina said that since
Kim
is from Dr. Frey’s department, it might be better
for Tina to remain.
International Business & Exchange Opportunities
– sending 3-4 faculty members
abroad a year now.
Internships – Dr. Bevill (as needed)
AD Hoc Committee on Merit Process – Dean Duggar
would like one person from each department. Russ Jones
had asked to be from his department and Dean Duggar
asked
Dr. Seydel to decide.

Summer Research Grant – Dr. Ford wanted to know
if there were any negative
comments in regards to this. No, there weren’t
any negative comments. Steering Committee – would
like to have whoever is on this to have a research record.
Dr. Ford asked where this money came from and Dean Duggar
stated that it was money that
was not allocated for any one salary. Do not allocate
more that 70% of this money for
the first year. Started with the collection of revenues
this semester
New Faculty Orientation – 4-5 – New Faculty
Orientation COB BU105. nstuddard and shorner for e-mails.
Nareatha Studdard, Crystal Crockett, Stephen Horner,
Mei Cao
7-8 Faculty Development Research Grant money –
Kelly Fish to send out e-mail
regarding this. $1500 apiece for travel expenses.
Meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
Next meeting scheduled for September 13, 2004 at 3:30
p.m. in the COB Conference Room BU105.
