Absent:

Meeting was called to order by Dean Duggar at 2:05
p.m.
Dean Duggar stated that there wasn’t a set agenda.
He commented that at the last meeting, Dr. Replogle
had stated that there wasn’t any planning going
on so Dean Duggar asked Dr. Reploge what he thought
we could do or what should we be addressing. There was
discussion on the following in regards to things we
need to do and to address:
STUDENTS
We should have more measurement on learning outcomes
rather than inputs. Should we look at CPA scores and
see where we stand on those and should we look at other
outcome measures to align our programs to those outcomes.
Dr. Roe commented that AACSB wants outcome measures,
so we need to find new ways to measure outcomes.
Student Organizations
Dean Duggar commented that some are active, some just
meet and induct and then do nothing. Should we do standard
organizing structures and have faculty advisors on these
committees. Dean Duggar commented that his office has
problems getting information on these organizations.
Dr. Nonis commented that we should get young faculty
involved on college committees. Dr. Nonis also

commented that he is getting the consensus that the
committee list is too long. Also, give the committees
an itinerary of what needs to be done and give them
something to work on. Dr. Seydel commented that he would
not like to see any brand new faculty assigned to the
committees because they get a lot of things dumped on
them, so many hours teaching, so much research etc.
when they first start working. Dean Duggar stated that
he would like to start a chapter in Toastmasters. He
commented that employers are more concerned with people
being able to get up and talk to people and work in
a team.
Internship Program
What can we do to make it better? What are the objectives
of it? Do you like the way we’re handling it,
or not. Dr. Bevill commented on students graduating
and getting interviews. Kim has been helpful with SHRM.
Open to help. Dr. Bevill would like to limit internships.
She would like to go to all the sites, but just can’t.
Dr. Replogle asked if there were any criteria for getting
an internship. They have to be a Junior but would like
to give seniors priority. There are about 30-40 internships
a semester. Most are paid for their internship.
International Travel/Study
Dean Duggar would like to see every student participate
in this. He stated that he thought we should make this
a part of our Academic Program.
Certification/Professional Licensing
There are a lot in Accounting, Finance & Law, Management
Information Systems and Management. Dean Duggar wanted
to know if we should have students be certified. Dr.
Replogle felt that the certificate helps them to look
at a specific job, whereas, a business degree doesn’t.
Dr. Seydel feels that this would give students a better
focus in their classes.
Dean Duggar asked Dr. Nonis to take this area and any
other areas and suggest what we need to be doing in
these areas. Improving learning outcomes, professional
development, etc. and Dr. Bevill was asked to help him.
FACULTY
Development
Dean Duggar asked the committee if there was anyone
that hasn’t gotten money for development to go
places.

Technology Training
Dean Duggar stated that there is one continuing faculty
member that has asked to go to Oracle Training this
summer.
Salary Levels
Dean Duggar felt this is something we need to keep
working on. Still need to compare to AACSB. Dr. Seydel
asked if we could compare the history of faculty here
and someone somewhere else, etc. Dean Duggar felt that
we could. We can go to the SREB averages, by rank and
by discipline. Look for private foundation supplements
in terms of professorships, chairs. It’s not general
across the board though. This doesn’t solve the
problem.
Summer Support
1st Yr Faculty – new preps, teaching load and
summer support we are weak compared to other universities.
Satisfaction
There was much discussion regarding satisfying the
faculty – what can we do. Can’t change the
speed of the state economy recovery. What is the key?
Comments were made that faculty used to be closer than
they are now and that there wasn’t any departmental
conflict. Also, faculty used to do things after hours
socially. There needs to be more recognition of faculty.
Since there’s no money, need to think of other
things to motivate faculty or make faculty feel better.
There’s a misconception of favoritism now. Suggested
having a meeting, Dean Duggar buy pizza and give faculty
time to talk. Comments were made that students treat
faculty members like dirt, talk back, walk out and the
same can go for faculty member.
Dean Duggar asked Dr. Seydel and Dr. Replogle to take
this section and think about it for next meeting.
CURRICULUM ISSUES
150 HOUR DEGREE PLAN FOR AFL
MIS DEGREE PLAN
What else can we be looking at? Ethics Diversity Course.
Interdisciplinary – different faculty working
on this ethics course. Dean Duggar felt that it could
be an elective for any major.

Dean’s concern with this course is that he is
afraid that it won’t be systematic or not as strong
as it might be. Dean Duggar asked, does the student
know how to stop, evaluate and solve an ethical issue?
Don’t know if we systematically do that.
Lecture Series
There is no set schedule so we need to be looking forward
with a schedule instead of the last minute.
Outcome Measures
Doesn’t differ from what we talked about before.
Systematic Review Plans
Do about every 3 years Offer honorium of about $500
for someone to do a review for us.
Are there a lot of curriculum issues we’re not
covering. (Calculus, statistical) Should we development
thinking skills or calculus capability.
Dr. Frey to work on curriculum issues.
Commented on students going to Newport to take statistics
and then not being prepared to take Dr. Nonis’
class. Also, some students are going to Paragould to
take classes. Do we not have any control over this?
Dr. Bevill asked if we should have an on-line statistical
test in order for student to take other courses.
Dr. Seydel asked what it takes to teach economics at
a community college, etc.
Have a workshop with community college faculty to make
sure that they are teaching what students need to go
on to other classes.
DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Capital Campaign
Dean Duggar feels there is a lot we can do here.

Gala and Golf Outing
Need to get people involved financially as well as
socially.
Need private foundation support for faculty etc.
Dr. Replogle – doesn’t see one thing on
this agenda on how we can establish one outstanding
area academically, not several areas that we do well.
Must be nameable. Like, ASU has a great program in --------------the
College of Business.
Dr. Roe – an area that we have an opportunity
in a particular niche is Center for Family Business
and Entrepreneurial Studies if we have a family that
would endow it. Such as, the Jones Family Center for
example. This would be nameable.
Seattle University, their degree plans and programs
are similar to ours, so what’s different? Student
would be asked during advising, what internship are
you going to do, etc.
Dr. Nonis – we should start off small so its
manageable.
Mark Young to look at Development Plan area by next
meeting
RECRUITING
Dean Duggar feels that recruiting will become more
and more important to us.
Transfer Scholarships
Will have to do more with the transfer scholarships.
Don’t get enough human interest stories.

PILLAR OF EXCELLENCE
With the university being a technology university gives
us a start on this. Dean Duggar asked how can we make
the finance faculty feel that they have a goal etc to
conquer, economics and management, how do we become
inclusive? Dr. Seydel commented to bring people on board
by how their particular area can help that pillar sign.
Mark Young stated that perception is reality. Ask alumns
and students what the strongest attribute of the college
is. Get their input and have them help identify the
Pillar of Excellence. Pose question in Sr. Exit Survey
etc.
Dean – how do we cross the lines to get departments
to work together. How do we make it of value to participate?
What’s needed to provide those incentives? If
Dean has a block of money – what should that money
be spent on? Dr. Nonis – new faculty.
What else would the committee like to bring up and
talk about today?
Dr. Roe suggested a faculty retreat. Have goal setting
and have department come up with what they would like
to do or where they would like to be. Come together
as a whole college. Support the idea that we want to
make this an outstanding College of Business and what
their role is and how they can help. Dr. Frey stated
that they could do a team building exercise.
Meeting adjourned at 3:35 p.m.
