Associates Degree Requirements
(2004-2005)
The Associate in Science degree in Management Information
Systems (MIS) provides the student with an introduction to the various MIS
technical areas that are necessary to enter employment at the operations level
of many information systems departments. It also caln serve as a valuable
step along the way to a four-year degree in Business, whether in MIS or in
another field.
GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (35 Semester Hours):
- ENG 1003, Freshman English I
- ENG 1013, Freshman English II
- MATH 2413, Business Calculus
- BIOL 1003, Biological Science, and BIOL 1001, Lab for Biological Science
- PHSC 1203, Physical Science, and PHSC 1201, Physical Science Lab
- ECON 2313, Principles of Macroeconomics
- HIST 1013 or HIST 1023, World Civilization to or since 1660
- SOC/ANTH 2233, Introduction to Cultural Anthropology
- Humanities -- two of the following:
- ENG 2003, Introduction to Literature of Western World I
- ENG 2013, Introduction to Literature of Western World II
- PHIL 1103, Introduction to Philosophy
- Social Sciences
- Global Issues -- one of the following
- HIST 1013, World Civilization to 1860
- HIST 1023, World Civilization frin 1860
- US History or Government -- one of the following:
MAJOR REQUIREMENTS (27 Semester Hours):
- MIS 1503, Microcomputer Applications*
- MIS 2033, Visual BASIC Programming
- MIS 2523, Networking Essentials
- MIS 3013, Management Information Systems
- MIS 3403, Introduction to Data Base Management
- ACCT 2003, Principles of Accounting I
- Interpersonal Communications -- one of the following
- SCOM 1203, Oral Communications
- BSYS 2563, Business Communications
- MIS/CS Electives (not including CS 1043): 6 semester hours
- Electives: 0 or 3 semester hours (if MIS 1503 satisfied by
proficiency exam)

similar course or by passing the computer proficiency exam administered by
the College of Business |
