Professional Development
As a professional school, the College of Business provides
many avenues for students to develop professionally. These include internships, opportunities
for international travel
and study, membership in student
professional organizations, preparation for professional
certification in many fields, lectures by professional
speakers, participation in etiquette
dinners, career
planning services, and student
services. Each of these opportunities is described below.
Internships
Through the College of Business internship program,
the students have an opportunity to receive experience directly
related to their majors while also receiving academic credit.
Enhance your resume and improve your chances of getting the
job you want after graduation with a College of Business
internship. For more information, visit the COB internship
webpage or contact Dr.
Sandra Bevill in BU 101.
International Travel
and Study
ASU's College of Business offers programs of international
travel and study. We encourage all business students to
take advantage of these wonderful opportunities. Take
a look at what is available to you!
Student Professional
Organizations
Professional and honorary organizations
are available to students majoring in any field of business.
These organizations offer important opportunities for leadership
experience. There are more than twenty organizations for
business students.
Professional
Certification
Certification in your professional field is important to
your career, and is available in most areas of business.
The College of Business at ASU actively supports many
professional
certification programs.
Professional
Speaker Series
Students in the College of Business have many opportunities
to learn from professionals in the business world. Practicing
professionals in various areas of business frequently speak
to classes about applications of the subjects they are studying.
The College of Business
Speaker Series regularly brings in renowned speakers
in business and economics. Students are encouraged to attend
along with business leaders and the community.
Etiquette
Dinners
You're right in the middle of an important interview with
five top managers from the company, and it's taking place
over dinner at a fancy restaurant. You feel something wedged
between your two front teeth. Should you attempt to discreetly
dislodge it with your fingernail, or a napkin, or perhaps,
a toothpick? Or, is it more appropriate to mutter "excuse
me" and head to the nearest restroom? Before you find
yourself in this or similar situations, make plans to attend
one of the four College of Business Etiquette Dinners offered
each year. For more information, contact Michele McGinnis
in the Student Services Center (BU 101) or email her at
mmcginnis@astate.edu.
Career
Planning The Office
of Career Services at ASU offers many services to prepare
students for their careers. Some services provided include
an on-campus interviewing program, a database for posting
your resume, listings of available jobs in Arkansas and
nationally, frequent job fairs, samples of resumes and resume
tips, how to write a job search letter, and tips for a successful
interview.
