Why
Become an Intern?
A
College of Business internship offers students an opportunity
to earn three hours of credit and gain practical job experience
in their major area of study (e.g., marketing, management,
MIS, accounting, finance). The three hours you get may be
in your major field or may be counted as an upper-level
elective.
Chances are, you already know someone
who has been part of the College of Business Internship
program. Most likely, this person told you good things about
the internship program since it tends to be a very positive
experience.
Becoming a College of Business intern
is an excellent way to get practical job experience in your
major area. As an intern, you will work at least 120 hours
for the three hours credit.
While all experience is good, the
best experience, of course, is the experience most closely
related to your career field. Your internship experience
will look very good on your resume as you near graduation
and begin looking for your first career-level position.
When you are accepted into the internship
program, you and I will work together, along with your advisor
and other faculty, to help you find an internship that is
related to your major. While I can't guarantee you an internship
site, I will do everything I can to help you locate a site
that will provide you with an opportunity to use what you
have learned in class and to learn real-life business practices.
Many of today's intern supervisors
were College of Business Interns in the past. Soon, I will
be posting pictures of these supervisors and their current
interns.
