Master of Science in Information
Systems & eCommerce (MSISeC)
The MSISeC is designed to prepare students either for advanced positions in the
information technology field or as preparation for entrance into a doctoral
program in Information Systems. The 36 credit-hour program of study includes a
24 hour core that provides the student with in-depth coverage of the core
components of today's IT field and incorporates a graduate statistics course.
These components include Database, Data Warehousing, Enterprise Systems,
Networking, and Systems Analysis. In addition, the student will take 6 hours of
directed electives and will then elect either to complete a thesis or 6
additional hours of coursework.
Admission Requirements
All general admission requirements of the
Graduate School
are applicable to the program, as are all
admission requirements of the Master of Business Administration. These include
the requirements for conditional and unconditional admission. In general, the
minimum requirements consist of the following
Overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75
GMAT score of 400
Formula score of 950 points, where the score is calculated as GMAT plus 200 time GPA
In addition, the applicant must have completed the MBA
foundation courses either at the graduate or undergraduate level. Finally, the
applicant must have completed an undergraduate database course and an
undergraduate programming course or must demonstrate proficiency in these areas.
Also recommended is an undergraduate course in either website development or
electronic commerce. (Most students with undergraduate business degrees have met
the business foundation requirements, and likely all students with MIS or
related degrees have met all the preparation requirements.)
Program of Study
Built upon a preparatory foundation of six business courses and three technical
courses, the MSISeC core consists of 24 required credit-hours. The core is aimed
at developing competency in the several fundamental areas of Information
Technology. Beyond the core is a 12 credit-hour elective block which may, at the
student's option include a 6 hour thesis. Other electives consist of approved
graduate coursework from the MSISeC, MBA, or CS programs. Only three hours of
internship or independent study may count toward the degree.
