Installation & Setup
- System recommendations:
- Operating system: Windows 2000 or Windows XP
(professional versions)
- Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher
- Desktop set at 800 x 600 or higher, with true color (24-bit)
- Windows Media Player 7.1 or higher
- Microsoft Office XP (including Access) or higher
- Note: you will need only Disc 1 of the SimNetXP Instructor set.
- Insert the disc into CD drive
- Wait for AutoRun to display the opening screen
- If AutoRun doesn't start
- Click on Start | Run
- Then indicate the location e:\autorun.exe (assuming your CD drive
is e:)
- You should not need to look at the ReadMe file
- Refer to the documentation
provided by SimNet for the remainder of the installation
- Create a Desktop shortcut to SimNetXP
- Click on Start | Programs | SimNet XPert
- Delete all items except for "SimNet XPert 3 Disc 1 -- Office XP and
Windows 2000" and "Uninstall SimNet XPert Release 3"
- Right-click on the item to be deleted
- Select "Delete" from the context menu
- Right-click on "SimNet XPert 3 Disc 1 -- Office XP and Windows 2000"
- Minimize all open windows
- Paste the shortcut icon where you want it
- Right-click on the Desktop where you wish the icon to be
- Select "Paste Shortcut" from the context menu
- Right-click on the new icon and then select "Rename" from the context menu
- Type SimNetXP and then press the Enter key
- The exam requires administrator permissions in order that files can be
written to certain folders on the hard drive; therefore
- Create a local user account (e.g., ExamStudent)
- Add that user to the Administrators group
Taking the Tests
- Login to an account with local administrator permissions and then start
SimNetXP
- If the disc (i.e., Disk 1 of the Instructor set) is not in the CD drive
- Insert the disc and wait for AutoRun to display the opening screen
- Click on "Run the Student Program"
- If the disk is already in the CD drive, double-click the SimNetXP
shortcut icon
- Login
- If previously registered, enter User Name and Password and then click
Login
- Otherwise, click "Self Register" and fill-in resulting form
- User name should be last name
- Create password that can be remembered
- Accept defaults and click OK on "My Lessons" folder screen
- On next screen, click "Take an Exam" and then wait a few seconds
- Exams should now be listed
- Select an exam (other than ExcelDemo)
- Click on "Select Exam"
- Follow exam instructions and pay attention to time remaining
- The exam has 5 modules: Access, Excel, PowerPoint,
Word, and OfficeXP Integration
- Each module, except for Excel, allows 45 minutes for taking the
exam, and the Excel module allows 60 minutes
- Instant feedback is provided regarding whether or not a response is
correct
- Two attempts are allowed per question
