Tech Assessment Exam
- Installation source
- Server (preferred)
- CD (if access to server not available)
- From the server
- Navigate to the folder
\\cobserv2\apps\CoB_Assessment\SimNetXP_Disk1
- Double-click autorun.EXE (not AUTORUN.INF)
- Skip the viewing of the ReadMe file
- Follow the SimNet XPert installation

- From the CD
- Insert the CD into the drive
- If the setup program doesn't start within a minute, open
My Computer and navigate to D:\ (assuming the
CD is in the D drive)
- Double-click autorun.EXE (not AUTORUN.INF)
- Skip the viewing of the ReadMe file
- Follow the SimNet XPert installation
instructions
- Create a local users exam account: The exam requires
administrator permissions in order that files can be
written to certain folders on the hard drive; therefore
- Create a local user account (e.g., CoBTech)
- Navigate through Start | My Computer
- Right-click on My Computer and then select
Manage; the Computer Management console will open as a
window
- In the navigation pane of the Computer Managementy
console expand Local Users and Groups
- Right-click Users, select New User, and
then assign the following
- User name: CoBTech
- Password: TechAssess2009
- Password never expires
- Add that user to the Administrators group
- While the Computer Management console is still open,
click Groups in the navigation pane
- In the contents pane, right-click Administrators
and select Add to Group
- Click the Add button
- In the area below "Enter the object names . . .
" type:
- The computer name, a backslash, and then the
user
- Example: bu202-01\CoBTech
- Click OK
- Close the Computer Management console
- Login locally using the CoBTech account (as created above)
- Start SimNetXP by double-clicking the Desktop
shortcut
- If the disc is not in the CD drive,
- Insert and wait for AutoRun to display the opening screen
- Click on "Run the Student Program"
- Login
- If previously registered, enter User Name and Password and then click
Login
- Otherwise, click "Self Register" and fill-in resulting form
- Provide correct first name, last name, and
middle initial
- Class and section selections should be "none"
- User name should be last name plus first and
middle initials, preceded by an underscore; if
already taken, add a number; e.g.,
- Create a password that can be remembered
- Accept defaults and click OK on "My Lessons" folder screen
- On next screen, click "Take an Exam" and then wait a few seconds
- Exams should now be listed
- Select an exam
- Click "Select Exam"
- Follow exam instructions and pay attention to time remaining
- The exam has 5 modules: Database,
Spreadsheet, Presentation, Word Processing,
and Integration.
- The spreadsheet and word processing modules allow 15
minutes each for taking the exam, and each of the others allows
10 minutes
- Instant feedback is provided regarding whether or not a response is
correct
- Two attempts are allowed per question
- When done, the student should report to her/his
instructor the following
- User name and password created for SimNetXP
- Lab where exam taken
- Number of the computer used for the exam
